Lunch at Longchamps
April 2007

23, 2007 -- Another gorgeous afternoon at the
track, this time at l'Hippodrome Longchamps, the
world-famous flat-racing track in the Bois de Boulogne. We
joined Gina and Tim Rarick at the restaurant overlooking the
rond du presentation, the walking ring. Our view of the
entries was perfect. Interestingly, with the hot
weather, the restaurant served the red wine cold, something
you don't see very often in the U.S., but it's a tradition
here that when the weather turns hot, the wine must be
cold...well, the everyday wine. It certainly changes the
taste, but it's quite refreshing. Many trips to the
guichet later, we threw in our betting slips to head out
to watch the last race from the fence. The horses rushed by
in a whirl, again from the right rather than the left.
As they went around the turn, they ran against the
background of the signature moulin (windmill) of
Longchamps. It was a lovely day at the races, and we're glad
to have been front and center with Tim and Gina.
Here's hoping there's more of this to come in the next few
weeks!

And down the stretch they come,
from the right,
past the Moulin de Longchamps,
then across the finish line!
