Jardin du Luxembourg

May
1, 2007 -- The Luxembourg Garden is an oasis of
green in the heart of Paris, so it's no surprise it's one of
the most popular in the city. There are formal terraces,
tree-lined paths, impressive statues, a theater for puppets(les
guingolles), open-air cafés, a bandstand, and an
octagonal pool, le grand bassin, that is usually
filled with toy sailboats that can be rented by the hour.
Luxembourg Palace, built by Marie de Medici in the 1600s,
houses the French Senate and a museum that is currently
showing Rene Lalique's glasswork. The gardens are a
picturesque scene on any afternoon, and on a sunny holiday
the place is filled to the brim. |
