| The east side of the Rhone, the Vaucluse region, is the more provençal
Provence...Peter Mayle
country, you might say. The land is more rugged, but also more filled with
tourists looking to recreate A Year in Provence in a week. The prices on this side of the
Rhone are a bit higher (although it's pretty expensive wherever you go), things seem both a bit more chic and a bit more "rustic,"
if you catch my drift. Pictured right are fields of lavender and the Abbaye de
Senanque near Gordes.
A wonderful luxury place to stay in this area is the
Hotel Crillon le Brave, which is perched on a hillside overlooking the Gigondas
and Vacquéyras wine regions and great food at its restaurant as well (pictured
left).
