Where to Stay in the Area
Where you stay in Uzès depends on the sort of experience
you wish to have and, of course, the price you are willing to pay. There are
hotels, lovely chambre d'hôtes, gîtes (simple rooms in a family atmosphere),
and houses and apartments for rent as well. The city's tourism website has an
extensive list of the region's
lodging options. And below we've listed some of the places (with stars where
given) we've heard about or visited ourselves, with links to their websites for
more info and pictures. Be sure to check when they're open as many hotels in the
area close during winter months.
Hotels and such in town:
Hotel du General d’Entraigues ***
A variety of room types and prices, pretty lobby area, and pricey restaurant,
this is the "hotel de charme" for the city.
Hotel
Relais-Mercure ***
Not much charm but clean, modern rooms, parking, and a nice swimming pool.
Within walking distance to town center.
La
Taverne **
A small hotel with restaurant just off the Boulevard. Listed with the Logis
de France service which indicates that it should be a comfortable, clean
place to stay.
In the area:
La Bégude
Saint-Pierre (Vers-Pont-du-Gard 5km)
On the road between Remoulin and Uzès, with pretty rooms, a beautiful courtyard
and a very good restaurant. Charming. L'Auberge Saint-Maximin nearby is run by
the same team, and the restaurant is often recommended to us, although we've not
eaten there.
La Bergerie (Euzet-les-Bain
15km)
On the road between Uzès and Alès, this lovely Chambre d'Hôtes provides
"a little bit of paradise" in a rural setting with all the amenities of a comfortable and charming hotel
(including swimming pool).
Le Castellas
(Collias 5km)
In the village of Collias, bordering the Gardon river, the restaurant has an
excellent reputation...but mixed reviews on the reception.
Chateau Hotel
d’Arpaillargues *** (Arpaillargues 4km)
Run by the Hotel d'Entraigues group (see above), this highly touted hotel and
restaurant is beautiful to look at. A chateau once owned by Franz Liszt's
mistress (Marie d'Agoult), the rooms are beautifully appointed, the grounds
well-kept. We've found the reception here a bit chilly and slightly off, and the
food somewhat overpriced for the quality, but many others rave about it...
Le Chateau
de Montcaud **** (Sabran/Bagnols sur Ceze 20km)
One of three Relais & Chateaux properties in the area (and so priced),
closer to Bagnols-sur-Cèze to the northeast.
Les Marronniers
(La Bruguiere 12km)
Le Mas Parasol (Garrigues
10km)
Le
Vieux Castillon **** (Castillon-du-Gard 10km)
Another Relais & Chateaux hotel in the heart of the restored medieval
village of Castillon-du-Gard, the restaurant here boasts a Relais Gourmand
label...pricey, reputedly spectacular.
